About the operation

We have been on this property since 1847. Four generations. The cattle have been here longer if you count the wild ones from before. We started recording their movements in 2019 with cameras we bought off the internet. 14 cameras total now. The patterns are there if you look.

The grazing is not random. We can show you the data. 10,847 hours of footage processed through the models we built. The AI learns from the herd and the herd has been learning from the land for longer than anyone can remember. This is not a metaphor. This is how it works.

We make video games because that is the correct way to transmit what we have learned. Other formats do not capture it right. We tried writing it down but writing is too linear. Games are systems. The cattle are systems. It fits.

Schedule

This is how we work most days. Some days are different.

Development Station
bar n laptop
5am Wake up. Check on cattle. Check the cameras are still recording.
6am Feeding. Takes about an hour. Good time to think about the code.
8am Review footage from overnight. Sometimes there is a lot to look at.
12pm Lunch. Usually eat at the computer.
1pm Game development. This is when we write most of the code.
5pm Evening cattle check. Download data from the pasture cameras.
7pm Dinner. More coding if there is energy.
10pm Start the overnight model training. Go to bed.
The game we are making
GRAZELANDS
Not done yet

The game uses real cattle behavior data. We have trained the AI on 10,847 hours of footage. The game will let you see what we have been seeing. The patterns. How they move. Why they move that way. It is hard to explain without showing you. That is why we are making a game and not writing a paper or something.

Thursday 3am
Whole herd turned east at the same time. All 34 of them. Stood there for about eleven minutes looking at something. Went back to grazing after. Checking the footage now. This is the third time this month.

The patterns repeat but not exactly. That is the whole thing. That is what the models are picking up on. Hard to explain in words. The game will make more sense when you can see it.

Why we do this

1
The cattle have been on this land longer than we have. They know something about how to move through space. The AI can learn from that.
2
Games are the best way to show people what we mean. You can not write it down. You have to experience it.
3
We are not in a hurry. The work takes as long as it takes. The cattle are not in a hurry either.
